OBJECTIVES 1) Given textbook reading and lecture materials, the students will, by the end of the quarter, be able to identify, define, and explain basic sociological terms, concepts, methodologies, and perspectives with 70 percent accuracy as measured by comprehensive examination and graded home works during the quarter. 2) Given a variety of sociological problems, the students will select one such problem for research and submit, by the tenth week of the course, a five to ten page paper resulting from the research at a minimum C level. (This research will use The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test as a basis of study.) The scope and focus of the paper will be scholarly including footnotes and bibliographic references. WORK EXPECTATIONS Required to check the online course three tiems each week. This class will be taught using materials and interactive tools available online. That means that we will sometimes meet live in our classroom and do some of our work online using the online course. Attendance and participation both in class and online are required as part of your passing grade. Assume that most weeks we will meet for about 2.30 hours and that you will have an additional 3 hours of out-of-class work. On the weeks that we do not meet in the classroom (but we will have online work to do) there will be 3-5 hours of out-of-class work, but you can choose to do some of it during the time that our class will normally meet. We will also have the opportunity to play online using a web conferencing tool called ADOBE CONNECT. Expect 3 hours of homework per week. Homework will not be accepted if more than one class late. |
